Dear Saint Francis Xavier Parishioners,

Happy Easter!

The Resurrection of Jesus proves that He is trustworthy. Jesus is alive!

This is amazing in its own right. After all, usually the dead remain dead. But not on Easter!

How does this fit into the Catholic faith, the love story of God for humanity?

First, God created humanity out of love. God created us so that we might live in a deep and personal relationship with Himself. Things were good.

Second, humanity was captured. Through the Original Sin, we were captured by sin and death and the Devil. In this capture, our relationship with God was severed. Things became very bad.

Third, we needed to be rescued from sin and death and the Devil. God’s chosen way is through Jesus Christ the Son of God. The Son of God became a human being in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He grew up into being a man. Jesus preached the Gospel, healed the sick, and drove out demons.

On Good Friday, Jesus died on the cross. God died on the Cross. Jesus’ sacrifice out of love repaired our relationship with God. The true love of God is not that we loved God, but that He loved us first. The rescue that began on Good Friday finds its completion in the Resurrection on Easter. By rising from the dead, sin and death and the Devil are definitively defeated.

Fourth, in the light of Easter glory, we decide how we are going to respond to God. He offers us a personal relationship again. Do we take him up on His offer?

The answer is yes. Definitely yes! It is only in relationship with God that we will find fulfillment and endless peace. It is only in relationship with God that the gates of Heaven are opened to us. It is only in relationship with God that we truly become ourselves.

So, happy Easter! Jesus is alive!

Sincerely through Jesus,

Fr. Jason
