Pastoral Care

“Fear not, I am with you; be not dismayed; I am your God. I will strengthen you, and help you, and uphold you with my right hand of justice.”

Pastoral care ministry follows in the footsteps of Jesus Christ who cared for the sick, the lonely, and the hurting. They are servant leaders, that is they lead by example of service. As children of God, pastoral care ministers are called to love and by their Baptism serve others.

Time Commitment

Weekly or bi-weekly visits to parishioners who are homebound or in care facilities as well as quarterly weeknight meetings.

Qualifications

  • Maintain healthy boundaries

  • Be sensitive to others, respecting their dignity

  • Listen objectively and compassionately without giving advice

  • Be non-judgmental, be present

  • Trust God in the silence

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Maintain a personal healthy lifestyle in mind, spirit, and body

Training

You will not be alone. Training is provided by the Coordinator of Pastoral Care. Quarterly meetings are also held with other ministers to share strategies and experiences.

If you are or know someone who is homebound or in a care facilities and would like someone from pastoral care to come and visit regularly, please contact Ellen Moore and/or Father Jason.
