Discipleship Formation Volunteers

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

- Matthew 28:19-20

Discipleship Formation Volunteers support parents as the primary faith educators of their children. Discipleship Formation seeks to create a relational encounter with Jesus Christ by touching our students’ minds, hearts, and souls through learning, service, prayer, and fellowship. The goal is to provide an authentic Catholic foundation to help guide their formation and spiritual journey. This volunteer opportunity includes catechists, catechist aides, hall monitors, and greeters.

Time Commitment

It depends on the grade level with classes of 60-90 minutes a week, from mid-October through mid-April. There is intermittent preparation between classes for catechists. Attendance at the family kick-off, catechist workshops, and end-of-year celebration is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • A desire to grow in and share faith.

  • An awareness of God’s grace and a desire to respond to that grace.

  • A commitment to the Church’s sacramental life and moral teachings.

  • A strength of character built upon patience, responsibility, confidence, and creativity.

Training

Training, mentorship, and support are provided by the Discipleship Formation staff and are tailored to the needs of the volunteer. An online resource provided by the Diocese of Green Bay, Franciscan at Home, and in-person workshops are utilized to support the growth and skills of the volunteer. Many catechists started as classroom helpers to cultivate their confidence and skills.
