Five Ways to be Successful in Adoration
(Taken from a blog entry on Lifeteen.com by Caitlin Sica)
Be Patient: In silent prayer, it seems like time can stand still. But the more you do Adoration, the more your capacity for it will build. Start with five minutes.
Bring Scripture: Reading the Bible is aways a good thing, but can be helpful in Adoration. There are many apps and books that have daily scripture readings, but nothing beats having just a plain old Bible.
Pray the Rosary: The Rosary is a good prayer that many of the saints have prayed. In it you find the mystery of salvation history.
Listen to Praise and Worship Music: Music can help us in adoration, especially when we are not used to the silence.
Be Okay with Silence: Silence is a precious commodity. When you enter into the silence of Adoration, try not to check your phone. Be ok with being restless or even bored. God is transforming you.
“Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’ He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress. Then he said to them, ‘My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me.’””
- Matthew 26:36-38
Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is a time when the faithful worship the true God in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is really present in the eucharistic host.
It is a time to just be with Jesus, to adore, thank, ask for forgiveness, and ask for our needs.
