Dear Saint Francis Xavier Parishioners,

Ready. Set. Go! Sometimes Lent seems like a race to me. Even at this early date, it is not too early to pray about how we are doing. Did we fast on Ash Wednesday? Did we abstain from meat on Friday? Have we increased our prayer and alms giving? Usually for Lent, I am a slow starter. So, if you have not had the best Lent so far, be kind to yourself and just keep on seeking the Lord Jesus Christ and the conversion he wants to you.

This past Monday I fed the hungry. The pastoral staff of St. Francis Xavier Parish and I served a meal to some of the homeless in Green Bay. It feels good to do the works of mercy. A disciple of Jesus Christ does the works of mercy on a regular basis. Sadly, the corporal works of mercy have been missing from my life over the past few years. I have not been the disciple Jesus wanted me to be. That makes me sad. I need conversion.

We are called to do the works of mercy as individuals. We are called to do the works of mercy as a parish. We are called to do the works of mercy as the Diocese of Green Bay as well. We can do this through the Bishop’s Appeal. One ministry close to my heart that is funded by the Bishop’s Appeal is campus ministry. Campus ministry is the outreach of the Catholic Church to college students. We have active campus ministries at UW-Green Bay and UW-Oshkosh. I worked in this ministry for seven years. It is hard and essential work, work that could not be done by a single parish. Conversion is happening to our college students. If you have given to the Bishop’s Appeal already this year, thank you. If you have not been able to give yet, please consider doing it this week.

Sincerely through Jesus,

Fr. Jason
